RV Plumbing and Water System Repair Serving Long Beach

About 10 min left

OCRV Center repairs RV fresh water systems including pumps, lines, fittings, valves, city water inlets and the damage caused by freeze events or improper winterization. Plumbing work runs $285 for a diagnostic and simple repair to $4,500 for extensive line replacement with associated water damage repair.

RV plumbing is mostly PEX tubing with crimp or push fit connections, running through wall cavities and under floors where nothing is visible. That construction is reliable until it is not, and when a fitting fails behind a panel the water goes into the structure rather than onto the floor where you would notice it.

The plumbing repair itself is usually inexpensive. The damage a slow leak caused before anyone noticed is what runs up the bill.

Finding Leaks Inside the Structure

A pressure test is the starting point. We isolate the system, pressurize it and watch for decay, which confirms whether there is a leak at all before anyone starts opening walls.

From there we narrow by section, isolating branches until the pressure holds. That is slower than guessing but it means we open the one panel that matters rather than several that do not.

Symptoms Worth Acting On

A water pump that cycles briefly with no tap open is reporting a leak somewhere, and it is the single most useful early warning the system gives you.

Soft flooring, a musty smell, or a cabinet floor that feels damp are later stage symptoms. By then the repair scope has usually grown beyond the plumbing.

Water Pumps, Accumulators and Pressure

A pump that runs constantly at low output has usually lost prime through an air leak on the suction side, and the leak is on a fitting that does not drip because it is under vacuum rather than pressure.

A pump that cycles rapidly is either working against a small leak or has a failed accumulator. Both are inexpensive to correct and both get misdiagnosed as a failing pump, which is the expensive part.

Freeze Damage and Winterization

Long Beach rarely freezes, but coaches travel, and a night in the Sierra or the high desert without winterization splits fittings and cracks the pump head. The damage frequently does not present until the system is pressurized again weeks later.

Damage from improper winterization is nearly as common. Antifreeze that never reached the water heater bypass, or a low point drain that was never opened, leaves water sitting exactly where it can do harm.

City Water Inlets and Pressure Regulation

The city water inlet is a check valve, and when it fails the pump pushes water back out the inlet instead of to the taps. It is a small part and a common failure.

Unregulated park water pressure is the other frequent cause of plumbing failure. Some parks deliver well above what RV plumbing is rated for, and a coach connected without a regulator can lose a fitting inside a wall overnight. We fit regulators and we recommend them without reservation.

What Is Included

  • System pressure tested to confirm a leak exists before any panel is opened
  • Branch isolation to locate the leak precisely rather than by exploratory teardown
  • Suction side air leaks checked on any pump losing prime
  • Accumulator function verified before a pump is condemned
  • City water inlet check valve tested as part of any pressure complaint
  • Moisture survey of the surrounding structure wherever a leak is found
  • Pressure regulation fitted and explained where the coach lacks it

Our Process

  1. 1

    Pressure Test

System isolated and pressurized with decay monitored to confirm whether a leak is present.

  2. 2

    Section Isolation

Branches isolated in sequence to narrow the leak to a specific run before anything is opened.

  3. 3

    Access

Only the panels covering the identified section removed, rather than exploratory teardown.

  4. 4

    Repair

Failed fitting, line or component replaced with correct materials and connection method.

  5. 5

    Moisture Survey

Surrounding substrate and framing checked for water damage caused by the leak.

  6. 6

    Retest

System pressurized again and held to confirm the repair before reassembly.

  7. 7

    Protection

Pressure regulation verified or fitted and winterization guidance provided.

Frequently Asked Questions

My RV water pump cycles on and off with no tap running. Why?

It is reporting a leak, and that is the most useful early warning the plumbing system gives you. Pressure is dropping somewhere, so the pump wakes up to restore it. The leak may be a fitting inside a wall that has not yet produced any visible water. Act on it immediately, because the plumbing repair itself is usually inexpensive and the structural damage from a leak that ran for months is not.

How do you find a plumbing leak inside an RV wall?

By pressure testing rather than by opening panels and looking. We isolate the system, pressurize it and watch for decay to confirm there is a leak at all, then isolate branches in sequence until the pressure holds. That narrows the leak to a specific run, so we open the one panel that matters instead of several that do not. It is slower up front and considerably cheaper overall.

How do you repair plumbing damage caused by freezing?

Split fittings and cracked components are replaced, and then the whole system is pressure tested, because freeze damage is rarely limited to one location. The complication is that freeze damage often does not present until the system is repressurized weeks later, so a coach that came back from a cold trip and seemed fine can develop leaks in several places at once. We test the full system rather than repairing only what is visibly split.

Do I really need a water pressure regulator?

Yes, without reservation. Some RV parks deliver water pressure well above what coach plumbing is rated for, and a vehicle connected without a regulator can lose a fitting inside a wall overnight. It is an inexpensive part that prevents one of the more costly failures available on a coach. We fit them and we check for one on any coach in the shop with a plumbing complaint.
