2018 Class A Motorhome
Class A Front Cap After a Post Strike
- What Came In
- A low speed strike on a campground post left what looked like a modest crack in the fiberglass cap. The owner also mentioned the entry door had recently started binding, which he assumed was unrelated.
- What Teardown Found
- Teardown showed star fracturing under the gelcoat extending roughly three times past the visible damage, and structural measurement found the cage behind the cap had shifted about a quarter inch. That shift was what had changed the door geometry.
- What Was Performed
- Structure pulled back to specification on the rack, laminate ground to sound material and rebuilt to full thickness, cap refinished with color matched to the coach as it existed rather than to the factory code, then blended into adjacent panels.
- Outcome
- Sixteen weeks. Door operates through full range. Supplement approved on documentation.
