How a Repair Actually Runs Here

A repair at OCRV Center runs through seven stages: intake and documentation, teardown, measurement and estimate, approval, structural and body repair, refinish, and quality control and delivery. Teardown happens before the estimate is finalized, which is why our numbers reflect the actual scope rather than what was visible from outside.

Most shops describe their process in terms of what the customer experiences. This describes what happens to the vehicle, because that is the part that determines whether the repair holds.

Our Process

  1. 1

    Intake and Documentation

The vehicle is photographed on arrival from every angle, VIN and mileage recorded, and a damage narrative written from your account of what happened. This record is the baseline everything else is measured against.

  2. 2

    Teardown

Trim, panels and any component blocking the view are removed so the structure behind the damage is fully visible. Nothing gets a final estimate until it is apart, because on a recreational vehicle the visible damage is a fraction of the real scope.

  3. 3

    Measurement and Estimate

Structure is measured against factory specification or verified symmetry, and a complete estimate is written from what is actually there. Hidden items are photographed as they are uncovered.

  4. 4

    Approval

On insurance work the estimate and photographs go to your carrier, supplements are negotiated with documentation, and approval is tracked and reported back to you. On customer pay work you approve the scope before anything proceeds.

  5. 5

    Structural and Body Repair

Pulls are performed on the anchored rack with staged re measurement, panels are sectioned or replaced at approved locations, and laminate and substrate are rebuilt to original thickness and bond.

  6. 6

    Refinish

Sealed, primed, blocked and sprayed in our downdraft booth, with color verified against an adjacent undamaged panel under corrected lighting and blended rather than cut off at a hard edge.

  7. 7

    Quality Control and Delivery

Multi point inspection, systems operation testing, post repair scan and recalibration where applicable, then a walkthrough with you before keys change hands.

Why Everything Stays In Shop

We do not offer mobile, roadside or fleet route service, and that is a deliberate decision rather than a limitation we are apologizing for.

A structural pull requires hydraulic rams reacting against a frame rack anchored to a concrete floor. There is no portable version of that. Refinish work requires a downdraft booth to achieve the finish standard and to comply with California air quality regulation. Electrical diagnostics require shop power, proper grounding and equipment that is not being run off an inverter in somebody parking lot.

Long Beach customers make the drive once, roughly 35 minutes by way of the I-405 north to the CA-91 east, and the vehicle stays until it is right. The alternative is a shop that will come to you and cannot actually perform the repair your vehicle needs.

What We Do Not Do

Stating this plainly saves everyone time. This facility performs collision, body, paint, frame and structural work, cargo body repair, equipment mounting, RV systems including electrical, plumbing, appliances, heating and cooling, and custom fabrication.

We do not perform engine, drivetrain or transmission work. We do not perform DOT or state inspections. We do not perform boom certification, hydraulic certification or dielectric testing on utility equipment. Operators who need those services alongside body work should plan the sequencing, and we will coordinate timing with your mechanical provider where that gets the vehicle back on the road sooner.

Process Questions

Why do you tear down before finalizing the estimate?

Because on a recreational vehicle the fiberglass cap hides the structure, the laminated sidewall hides the substrate, and the interior hides everything else. An estimate written from the outside captures a fraction of the actual scope. Tearing down first means the number you get reflects reality, and it means the insurance supplement goes in with photographic evidence rather than as a request to trust us.

Why is all work performed in shop?

Because that is where the equipment is. A structural pull needs a frame rack anchored to a concrete floor to react against. Refinish work needs a downdraft booth to meet both the finish standard and California air quality requirements. Electrical diagnostics need shop power and a scan tool that is not running off an inverter in a parking lot. We do not offer mobile, roadside or fleet route service.

How do you keep me updated during a long repair?

You get told when something changes, proactively, rather than finding out when you call. The two things that move a timeline are a supplement waiting on carrier approval and a part with a longer lead time than the supplier indicated. Both are outside our control and both are things you should hear about from us.

What happens at final quality control?

A multi point inspection covering the repair area and everything adjacent to it, operational testing of every system that was disturbed including doors, slides, electrical and plumbing where applicable, post repair scan and driver assistance recalibration on equipped vehicles, and a final detail. Then we walk the vehicle with you before you take the keys.
