RV and Fleet Hail Damage Repair Serving Long Beach
About 10 min left
Hail damage on recreational vehicles concentrates on the roof and upper sidewalls, where impacts crack membrane, fracture fiberglass and dent aluminum. OCRV Center documents and repairs hail damage with full claim support, with work running $2,000 for localized roof damage to $30,000 or more for a coach requiring roof replacement and multi panel refinish.
Hail damage is the most underestimated loss category on recreational vehicles, and the reason is geometry. On a car the hood and roof are visible from standing height. On a 12 foot tall coach, the entire primary impact surface is above the owner and stays unexamined until a leak appears months later.
Storms that reach Southern California from the desert or that travel down from the Central Valley routinely produce coaches with dozens of roof impacts and an owner who saw nothing wrong.
What Hail Actually Does to an RV
On an EPDM or TPO roof, hail bruises the membrane and can fracture it outright over a hard substrate point such as a rafter. Those fractures may not leak immediately. They leak after ultraviolet exposure widens them over the following months.
On fiberglass caps and sidewalls, hail produces star fractures under the gelcoat that look like faint circles from certain angles and are invisible from others. On aluminum sided trailers it produces classic dimpling across the upper panels.
Secondary Damage from Delayed Discovery
The genuine cost of hail damage is usually not the impact repair. It is the water intrusion that followed the impacts and went unnoticed for a season, which produces wet substrate, delamination and interior damage.
That is also where claims get complicated, because carriers reasonably ask whether the water damage came from the hail event or from pre existing neglect. Prompt documentation is what settles that question in your favor.
Assessment and Impact Mapping
We assess from the roof with the coach under controlled lighting, because hail dents on a large flat surface are only visible at a low raking angle. Impacts are counted, mapped by panel and photographed with a scale reference in frame.
That map is what goes to the carrier. An estimate that says roof damaged loses arguments. An estimate that says 74 impacts across the roof with 6 membrane fractures at the locations shown does not.
Repair Approach by Surface
Membrane with fractures gets patched where impacts are isolated and replaced where they are dense, because a roof with forty patches has forty future failure points. Fiberglass with star fracturing is ground back to sound laminate, rebuilt and refinished.
Aluminum dimpling on trailers is either worked out where access allows or the panel is replaced, and on Airstream style units panel replacement is frequently the only correct answer because the skin is structural.
Working the Insurance Claim
Hail is a comprehensive claim, not a collision claim, which usually means a different and often lower deductible. It also means it does not typically affect your rating the way an at fault collision would.
We supply the impact map, photographs, membrane moisture readings and a line item estimate. Where the carrier initially approves less than the damage requires, we supplement with documentation rather than argument.

Our Process
- 1
Roof Level Assessment
Coach inspected from the roof under low angle lighting, where hail damage is visible and from the ground it is not.
- 2
Impact Mapping
Every impact counted and located by panel, photographed with a scale reference.
- 3
Moisture Survey
Substrate checked for water intrusion that followed the impacts.
- 4
Claim Submission
Documented estimate with the impact map submitted to your carrier as a comprehensive claim.
- 5
Repair
Membrane patched or replaced by impact density, fiberglass rebuilt, aluminum worked or replaced.
- 6
Refinish
Affected panels color matched and blended, roof coated where the material calls for it.
- 7
Water Test
Roof flooded and interior monitored to confirm all intrusion paths are closed.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to repair hail damage on an RV roof?
Localized roof membrane repair with a handful of impacts runs $2,000 to $6,000. A roof with dense impacts requiring full membrane replacement runs $8,000 to $18,000. When hail also damaged fiberglass caps and upper sidewalls requiring refinish, totals reach $30,000 or more on a large coach. The number is driven by impact density and by whether water intrusion already damaged the substrate.
Does insurance cover hail damage on a camper or fifth wheel?
Yes, under comprehensive coverage rather than collision, which usually means a lower deductible and typically no rating impact the way an at fault collision would have. The claim hinges on documentation. We supply an impact map with counts by panel, photographs with a scale reference and moisture readings, which is what separates an approved claim from one where the adjuster writes for a fraction of the actual damage.
How do I know if my RV has hail damage if I cannot see anything?
You almost certainly cannot see it from the ground, and that is the core problem. On a 12 foot tall coach the entire primary impact surface is above eye level. Hail dents on a large flat roof are only visible at a low raking angle under the right light. If your coach was parked through a hail event, get it inspected from the roof. Most owners discover the damage months later when a leak appears, by which point the water damage exceeds the impact damage.
My hail damage happened months ago. Can I still file a claim?
Often yes, but it gets harder with time and depends on your policy reporting requirements. The complication is that carriers reasonably ask whether the water damage that followed came from the hail event or from pre existing neglect. If you can establish the storm date, that helps considerably, and National Weather Service records for your area on that date are legitimate supporting evidence. Bring us the date and we will build the documentation around it.
